'Big Bertha'

Galanthus elwesii 'Big Bertha'

Galanthus 'Big Bertha' is an elwesii-selection with large, rounded flowers. A particular peculiarity distinguishes the shape of this cultivar: The outer petals lift up to an almost horizontal position in warm weather. This wide-open flower and the spoon-shaped petals with their green tips contribute to the variety's high recognition value.
Galanthus 'Big Bertha' was selected by Gill Richardson. She is a snowdrop collector from Lincolnshire in England. Thousands of naturalised snowdrops grow in her garden, the Manor Farm, including many special selections. Furthermore, she is known for her outstanding selections of the genus Astrantia.
