The seedling was found by the Scottish snowdrop collector Ian Christie at Brechin Castle in Angus and was tentatively named as \u2018Anne\u2019s Green Stripe\u2019. The variety was later renamed \u2018Castle Green Dragon\u2019 at the request of the Dalhousies. Brechin Castel is the home of the Earl of Dalhousie, the clan chieftain of Clan Maule of Panmure in Angus, and Clan Ramsay of Dalhousie since the beginning of the 20th century. The castle has been the seat of the Clan Maule since medieval times and the green dragon on the crest of Clan Maule is the reason why the name \u2018Castle Green Dragon\u2019 was chosen for this snowdrop.<br \/>The use of two variety names for one plant has created some confusion among collectors and and even in literature. Today the name \u2018Castle Green Dragon\u2019 is used and \u2018Anne\u2019s Green Stripe\u2019 is only to be regarded as a synonym.<br \/>The plant itself is considered difficult to cultivate and only very few bulbs are available at specialized nurseries.
