During Schmiemann's lifetime, the well-known German snowdrop expert J\u00f6rg Lebsa paid her a visit and she showed him the yellow Galanthus seedling. Lebsa, while musing on a suitable name, suggested 'Belvedere Gold' to her because the house and garden were on Belvedere Street. This in reference to Colin Mason's varieties, which all begin with Fieldgate, for Fieldgate Lane, where his former garden was located. Schmiemann immediately agreed to Lebsa's suggestion.<br><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The variety is a Galanthus x valentinei, a hybrid between G. nivalis and G. plicatus.
