Galanthus elwesii 'Greenbottle'

Galanthus 'Greenbottle' is certainly one of the most unusual Turkish snowdrops in terms of flower shape and coloration. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Trym type group, although it is certainly a pure Galanthus elwesii.

This plant was selected by the Monksilver Nursery in England and its origin is very interesting: It developed out of a mutated shoot of Galanthus elwesii 'Cross Eyes', and it is obviously different from the original plant. In botany, these individuals are called "sports": mutated parts of a plant that show morphological differences from the rest of the plant. They can then be further cultivated as a separate variety and propagated vegetatively.
