'Swan Lake'

Galanthus nivalis ‘Swan Lake’

The history of Galanthus 'Swan Lake' is closely linked to that of 'Annielle'. Behind these varieties are two Scottish snowdrop lovers and good friends, Ian Christie and Cyril Lafong. The finder, Cyril Lafong, lives in Fife in the east of Scotland and has an extraordinarily extensive private collection of alpine plants, which he cultivates in a small backyard with several small greenhouses. Several of his plants, including Trillium, Daphne, Corydalis Erythronium and many more, have won awards. Galanthus 'Swan Lake' is of relatively small stature and has six identical petals. Galanthophiles call this a poculiform snowdrop. Although it is not particularly vigorous, it scores points with its graceful flower shape. The variety name "Swan Lake" is a reference to the world-famous ballet of the same name to the music of Tchaikovsky.
