'Wol Staines'
Galanthus hybrid ‘Wol Staines’
The snowdrop variety 'Wol Staines' comes from the garden of Sue and Wol Staines (Glen Chantry) in Witham, Essex, England. This plant is a seedling of the well-known variety 'South Hayes'. Before it was given its final name, the name GC 18 came into use. Sue jokingly says that this snowdrop shares many characteristics with the man she married: "Late, unpredictable, temperamental at times but on a good day quite charming and a pleasure to share the garden with!" Galanthus 'Wol Staines' is a slow-growing cultivar that is not easy to grow well, but impresses with its attractive flowers.
