'Egret'
Galanthus nivalis ‘Egret’
Galanthus ‘Egret’ comes from the garden of the well-known snowdrop grower Phil Cornish from the county of Gloucestershire in the south-west of England. The variety is considered to be rather slow-growing and not easy to cultivate. This and the somewhat unconventional shape of the snowdrop are probably the reasons why the variety is still rarely found in cultivation.
The name ‘Egret’ probably stems from the fact that the outer petals are somewhat reminiscent of the wings of an egret about to take off. The wavy and curved petals give the variety a unique appearance that makes it easily recognisable.
