Galanthus elwesii ‘Remember Remember’

This snowdrop is one of the earliest autumn flowering varieties and usually blooms in November / December. It belongs to the Hiemalis group and, therefore, only has one green spot on the inner petals and a particularly early flowering period. It was found in 1992 in the garden of "North Green" in the village of Stoven in Suffolk, England by Jim Morley. It may have been the result of natural pollination of very dark green Galanthus elwesii of the Hiemalis-group by bees or other insects.
Galanthus ‘Remember Remember’ is a synonym for ‘November Merlin’ and is often in bloom in England on the 5th of November. On that day, the failure of a plot at the beiginning of the 17th century (5th of November 1605) is celebrated in many parts of England, because back then, the King of England, his family and the government representatives should have been killed by the Catholics.
In culture, the variety tends to tilt to the ground due to the weight of the flower. Snow- or rainfall can therefore have a negativ effect. A sunny, protected location is an advantage. In some years, there are fine, green lines on the outer petals.
