‘Schorbuser Irrlicht’

Galanthus hybr. ‘Schorbuser Irrlicht’

Galanthus ‘Schorbuser Irrlicht’ comes from the garden of the German snowdrop expert Hagen Engelmann from Cottbus in the east of Germany. It was named around 2010, making it the first yellow-colored hybrid to be named by Hagen. At that time, the term "color changer" was not yet common and this quality is rather inconspicuous when the plant is cultivated in a garden setting.
Most of the time, the flowers of 'Schorbuser Irrlicht' open with a distinct yellow tone, which intensifies to golden yellow with advancing age. The flowers are rather small, have a rounded, slightly conical ovary. The basal and apical markings on the inner petals usually touch.
If the variety is cultivated with winter protection, the first flowers open in January with a yellow-olive hue.
A vigorous and very interesting variety that is considered easy to grow.
