'Dryad Gold Sovereign'
Galanthus x valentinei ‘Dryad Gold Sovereign’
Galanthus ‘Dryad Gold Sovereign’ is a yellow x valentinei hybrid and comes from the garden of Anne Wright in Tockwith, a village in North Yorkshire, England. Anne is a well-known daffodil grower and owner of the Dryad Nursery.
In 2006, Anne devoted herself to snowdrops for the first time and carried out a cross that resulted in exceptionally good plants. She crossed Galanthus plicatus ‘Wendy’s Gold’ with a yellow Galanthus nivalis from the Sandersii group. Four years later in 2010, the first seedlings from this cross flowered and almost all of them were yellow. Anne summarized them in the Dryad Gold Group, knowing that these plants will set new standards. A total of eight seedlings from the group were named, the variety names of which begin with "Dryad Gold".
Galanthus ‘Dryad Gold Sovereign’ is one of the larger members of this group. The flower stems are stable and upright and bear a large flower. The yellow color develops most intensely outdoors.
Like all members of the Dryad Gold Group, Galanthus ‘Drayd Gold Sovereign’ is an attractive garden plant that multiplies well over side bulbs.
