Galanthus gracilis ‘Ronald Mackenzie’

This variety is rarely found in collections and generally difficult to obtain, nevertheless it is one of the most beautiful yellow-flowering snowdrops. Among experts it is generally traded as Galanthus gracilis, but sometimes also as a Galanthus gracilis hybrid. It is considered difficult to cultivate and is prone to rot when the soil in summer is too wet.
The variety is named after a well-known snowdrop breeder from Great Britain: Dr. C. Ronald MacKenzie. Through his nursery "The Snowdrop Company", the creation of many new varieties and the contribution in the "Snowdrop Bible" by Matt Bishop, Aaron Davis and John Grimshaw with the title "Snowdrops: A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus", Dr. C. Ronald MacKenzie received a lot of recognition. He was also one of the pioneers in the multiplication of snowdrops via twin scaling and chipping and won won several awards for his plants and his work from the Royal Horticultural Society and the Alpine Garden Society.
