‘Schorbuser Lampion’

Galanthus hybr. ‘Schorbuser Lampion’

Galanthus ‘Schorbuser Lampion’ is part of a whole group of snowdrops with similar flower characteristics. The variety comes from the garden of the German snowdrop expert Hagen Engelmann from Cottbus in the east of Germany. The so-called "color changers" are able to change the initially greenish color of the inner petals into a yellow-orange with advancing age.
Galanthus 'Schorbuser Lampion' is larger than 'Schorbuser Irrlicht' and 'Ilse Bilse'. The flowers have a rounded appearance, as the outer petals curve like a trowel. In contrast to 'Schorbuser Lampion', the upper and lower markings on the inner petals never touch.
The ovary is oval and the lower edge of the inner petals is clearly turned outwards, which could indicate Galanthus gracilis in its parentage. Like the other hybrids from this group, Galanthus plicatus was certainly involved in the development of this seedling, although Galanthus elwesii and Galanthus nivalis cannot be excluded.
A wonderful variety and a striking representative of the group of "color changers" due to its size.
