'Chameleon'

Galanthus hybr. ‘Chameleon’

As the name suggests, this snowdrop hybrid is able to change its color. Admittedly, not the entire flower, but at least the color of the inner petals. The apical marking is green to green-yellow when the flower opens and turns into a rich yellow to yellow-orange with age. The plant itself is somewhat similar to the ‘Mother Goose’ from North Green Snowdrops, but is less vigorous overall. Young bulbs produce flowers that often have yellow inner markings right from the beginning, with older ones undergoing the typical color change. Interestingly, mature bulbs often produce flowers with yellow flushed tips. That clearly distinguishes this variety from ‘Mother Goose’.
Galanthus ‘Chameleon’ comes from the garden of Richard Bashford and Valerie Bexley at Woodchippings. Their small nursery is located in Brackley, Northamptonshire, England, and is known for some of the best new snowdrop varieties of recent years.
